Why I Built The Canvas
I am a visual person. I like things to be made simple (we have enough complexity in our lives!) especially when it comes to topics like money and investing. Honestly, this journey of breaking down the basics has been immensely rewarding for me. One question I asked - what would it take to now simplify all that we learnt into one place? When I started LVX, I was motivated to create a platform that would simplify information gathering in one place for founders. Back then, I was inspired by the Lean Canvas by Ash Maurya (linked here for those who want to know more). I found the canvas incredibly useful to bring all my thoughts into one page.
This Angel Canvas is inspired by the same methodology. This is the 1-page mental model: The Angel Investing Canvas.
What It Helps You Do
Use it during or after a pitch to break down any early-stage startup into 4 blocks:
Opportunity – Problem clarity, Market size, the first product wedge and competition. How is the solution different, to differentiate itself in the market?
People – Founder’s energy, learnability, and team-building signals
You as an Angel – Your bias, strengths, and the kind of investor role you want to play
Thesis Fit – Does the startup align with your investing lens or just your FOMO?
